Cheryl Cole scores fastest-selling single of 2010 UK singles chart with ‘Fight For This Love’
Cheryl Cole’s debut solo single ‘Fight For This Love’ has shot straight to the top of the UK singles chart, recording the fastest-selling single of the year so far.
The Girls Aloud singer dislodged last week’s chart topper Alexandra Burke after clocking up over 290,000 sales.
The X Factor winner herself initially broke the record selling 185,000 copies of ‘Bad Boys’ in its first week.
No record has had a bigger first week than Cole’s single since Burke’s other Number One ‘Hallelujah’ sold over half a million copies at Christmas last year, according to the Official Charts Company.
The combined sales have helped 2009 to become the biggest year ever for UK singles sales, with 117 million singles already being sold this year ahead of an all-time time previous record of 115.1 million, set in 2008.
Elsewhere in the singles chart, Foo Fighters made their comeback with new single ‘Wheel’ at 22, Calvin Harris went in at 30 with ‘Flashback’ and Paolo Nutini charted at 33 with ‘Pencil Full Of Lead’.
Despite falling into second place in the singles chart, Burke’s debut album ‘Overcome’ went straight to the top of the album chart as last week’s chart toppers Editors dropped down to Number 12.
Elsewhere in the album chart, Seasick Steve’s ‘Man From Another Time’ went in at Number Four, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Very Best Of’ charted at six and Spandau Ballet’s ‘Once More’ went in at seven.
